Air-conditioned clothing brings good news to outdoor workers
This summer has been particularly hot, especially in Zhejiang and Chongqing, where temperatures have even exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. Walking under the sun feels like being a melting ice cream. Even office workers complain of feeling faint from the heat while picking up takeout, let alone those who work outdoors for long periods. But what if there’s no air conditioning outdoors?
Just as there are heated clothes in winter, there are “air-conditioned clothes” for summer.
However, these “air-conditioned clothes” don’t actually have an air conditioner inside. They have two small fans installed on the left and right sides of the waistband. These fans draw in outside air, which then absorbs heat from the body’s surface through vaporization, causing sweat to evaporate and cooling the body, resulting in a cool and comfortable feeling.
Under normal circumstances, the human body can regulate its own temperature. In high-temperature environments, influenced by the environment, body temperature gradually rises. This stimulates the sweat glands to secrete sweat, which evaporates and absorbs a large amount of heat, thus lowering the body surface temperature and achieving a cooling effect. However, when the outside temperature is excessively high, the body’s temperature regulation mechanism malfunctions, making heatstroke highly likely.
Air-conditioned clothing promotes the evaporation of sweat from the skin. Its fitted waist and side fans draw in a large amount of air, which then flows parallel to the body’s surface, exiting through the neck and cuffs, creating a continuous circulation. This allows sweat to evaporate instantly, carrying away heat and lowering the perceived temperature, much like having a portable air conditioner.
Air-conditioned clothing is ideal for outdoor athletes, outdoor workers, and those in high-temperature workplaces. While it cannot compare to a real air conditioner, it greatly alleviates discomfort caused by high temperatures. Perhaps in the near future, clothing that functions exactly like a real air conditioner will be developed.
